Armed Forces specialist mortgage advisers.

Whether you're buying your first home, moving home, remortgaging or even thinking about buying your future home now to rent out until you leave service, we'll guide you through every step of your journey.

Why military experience matters

Our mortgage advice is built around military life. That means understanding the things that often make military mortgages different. Whether it's BFPO addresses, military pay, Forces Help to Buy or buying your future home to rent out, we already understand many of the questions you'll have and the challenges you may face, so we'll already know what to expect.

You'll have the same adviser throughout, with one of our support team keeping everything moving behind the scenes. That means you'll always know who you're dealing with and who to contact if you need us.

We know military life doesn't always fit into normal working hours, so neither do we. We'll keep in touch in whatever way works best for you, whether that's by phone, video call, email, text, or WhatsApp - including evenings and weekends where needed.

One less thing to worry about.

If you're a member of the Armed Forces or part of the military community, you'll never pay us a fee. Supporting the Armed Forces community isn't a marketing campaign - it's part of who we are. It's one of the ways we honour our commitment to the Armed Forces Covenant and help remove barriers to home ownership.

Buying Your First Home While Serving

Helping service personnel understand the home-buying process

For many people living in Service accommodation, buying a first home is completely new. To make things easier, we've broken the process down into six simple steps, explaining what happens at each stage and how we can help. Whether you need our help throughout the whole journey or just one part of it, we're here however much - or however little - you need us.

1

Be Prepared

Before you begin house hunting, understand what you can afford, the different ways you can buy while serving and what to expect from the process.

2

Finding Your Ideal Home

With a clear budget in mind, you can confidently search for a property, find the right home and make an offer.

3

Appointing a Solicitor

Once your offer has been accepted, you'll need to choose a solicitor to carry out the legal work involved in buying your property.

4

Applying for Your Mortgage

Learn what happens once you're ready to apply for your mortgage, together with the important protection considerations that come with owning your own home.

5

The House Buying Process

Once your mortgage application has been submitted, your lender and solicitor will begin the work needed to complete the purchase of your new home.

6

Completion

On completion day, ownership of your new home is officially transferred to you and you can finally collect the keys.

Forces Help to Buy

Forces Help to Buy (FHTB) is an interest-free loan of up to £25,000 that can be used towards a deposit and other eligible costs, helping many Armed Forces personnel buy a home sooner.

Many people aren't sure whether they're eligible, how the scheme works or whether it's the right option for them.

Why we became Armed Forces specialists

Helping military families wasn't part of our original business plan. It happened because of our own family's connection to the Armed Forces.

PFL Mortgages has been helping people buy, move and remortgage for over 15 years. Our Managing Director, Graham, was one of the original founders of Mortgage Advice Bureau in 1991 and has spent more than three decades helping people buy their own home.

The Armed Forces have always been part of Graham's family. His father served in the Royal Air Force and, several years ago, his son, who is currently serving, bought his first home using the Forces Help to Buy scheme. We helped him throughout the process.

As more serving personnel began asking for our help, it quickly became clear that military families needed more than someone to arrange a mortgage. They wanted advisers who understood military life and could guide them through the whole home-buying journey.

Today, we're proud to have become one of the UK's most recommended Armed Forces specialist mortgage brokers. Our small team helps serving personnel, veterans and military families however much - or however little - they need us.

The Armed Forces have always been part of our family's story

The people behind our Armed Forces service

Supporting the Armed Forces community is a team effort. Across our team, you'll find people with close family connections to the military, military wives, and others working behind the scenes to support the Armed Forces community every day. Together, we share the same commitment to helping serving personnel, veterans and military families. Here are just a few of the people who make that happen.

Craig is one of our Armed Forces specialist mortgage advisers. He joined PFL Mortgages in 2023, taking over from Graham as our specialist Armed Forces adviser. In his own words, this is why supporting serving personnel and their families means so much to him:

“I love my country and when Graham asked me if I wanted to become a specialist supporting military families with their mortgages, I seized the opportunity, as I want to show my gratitude to current serving personnel and their families.”

Lucy is one of our Armed Forces specialist mortgage advisers and a military wife. Having experienced military life first-hand, she's passionate about helping serving personnel and their families. In her own words, this is why that means so much to her:

“My husband has served in the military for 9 years now and has been fortunate to have had a posting overseas during this time too. I have first-hand experience of day-to-day military family life - seeing both the good times and the hard times, so I feel it is so important to be able to help give back to the community in which we are a part of. I am so excited to be on board with PFL and feel our service is truly unique, so it will be so special to help so many military personnel and their families”

Annie is our Marketing Manager and Armed Forces Coordinator. She helps ensure that supporting the Armed Forces community remains at the heart of everything we do. In her own words, this is why it's so important to her:

“My husband joined the military 9 years ago and has served across two of the services since then. It’s so important to me as the spouse of a serving person, to support families that look like mine. I am also passionate about supporting communities that sustain the military, which is why I am proud to be the Armed Forces Covenant Armed Forces Champion.”

Supporting the Armed Forces community beyond mortgages

For us, supporting the Armed Forces community isn't a marketing campaign - it's part of who we are.

Every day, we help serving personnel, veterans and military families buy a home or remortgage. But our support doesn't stop there. Whenever we have the opportunity, we're proud to get involved with military events, support Armed Forces charities and give something back to the community that has supported us.

At PFL Mortgages, we are always looking at ways we can give back to the military community. We have partnered with the Armed Forces Covenant to show our commitment to our service people, veterans, and their families. This includes waiving our fee, donating to SSAFA for every mortgage we complete for a service family, and as we grow, we aim to recruit military family members or veterans as a priority.

Something else you may not know about us, is that we are big football fans! With the help of the Chairman of the RAF Brize Norton Inter-section Football League (BZN ISFL), we provided monies and sponsorship for a kit for the A400 Football Team, Atlas Force.

RAF Brize Norton Families Day 2025

Meeting military families at one of the RAF's biggest annual events.
PFL Mortgages was proud to support RAF Brize Norton Families Day 2025, spending the day meeting serving personnel and their families, answering questions and introducing more people to the specialist support we provide.

Charles, our Senior Mortgage Adviser, was interviewed by BFBS during the event, while he, Craig, one of our Armed Forces advisers, and Eleanor, our Accounts Manager, spent the day meeting military families, answering questions and introducing more people to the specialist support PFL provides.

RAF Brize Norton Families Day brings together serving personnel, veterans, military charities and local organisations for a day of celebration, making it a fantastic opportunity to support the community beyond the work we do every day.

RAF Brize Norton Families Day 2026

Returning to support military families and sponsor the children's activities.
We were delighted to return to RAF Brize Norton Families Day in 2026, this time sponsoring the children's face painting area to help make the day even more enjoyable for military families.

As both a military wife and one of our Armed Forces advisers, Lucy spent the day chatting with serving personnel and their families, answering mortgage questions and getting to know many of the people waiting in the queues. PFL also provided goodie bags for children, helping keep them entertained while their parents enjoyed the event.

It was another fantastic day celebrating the Armed Forces community alongside military charities, local organisations and thousands of serving families.

SSAFA 13 Bridges Challenge

Raising money for one of the UK's leading Armed Forces charities.
Supporting the Armed Forces community also means supporting the charities that stand beside military families every day.

In June 2026, Charles, our Senior Mortgage Adviser, Lucy, one of our Armed Forces advisers, and Eleanor, our Accounts Manager, took part in SSAFA's 13 Bridges Challenge, a 10-mile sponsored walk across London held as part of the national Armed Forces Day celebrations. Lucy's husband, Jimmy, who serves in the RAF, kindly joined the team for the challenge.

Meanwhile, Graham, our Managing Director, admitted that walking ten miles was a step too far, so he jokingly created his own version of the challenge - using the London Underground to pop up at various points along the route and cheer the team on. Thankfully, it involved far fewer miles on foot!

Together, the team raised £687, plus a further £133.88 in Gift Aid, for SSAFA.

Our support doesn't end there. PFL also donates £50 to SSAFA for every completed Armed Forces mortgage, helping the charity continue its vital work supporting serving personnel, veterans and military families.

PFL Mortgages proudly supports SSAFA by donating £50 for every completed Armed Forces mortgage, alongside fundraising events such as the 13 Bridges Challenge.
